Banning skinny models 'disrimination', says Schiffer

Catwalk beauty Claudia Schiffer is the latest celebrity to wade into the row over super-skinny models, branding plans to ban them from runways "discrimination".

Last week, British beauty Naomi Campbell made her feelings known as she collected the Best Model accolade at the Elle Style Awards in London.

Campbell, 36, insisted it was wrong to blame the fashion industry for "a psychological disease" and refused to accept skeletal stars are the result of pressures from within the industry.

Now Schiffer has added her weight to the debate, maintaining svelte figures are not necessarily unnatural.

"It is wrong to discriminate against slim, healthy girls," she said.

However, she concedes models with eating disorders are a big concern, adding: "Dieting is not the solution. A healthy life is."
