Hot Fuzz film doesn't manage lift-off

Super big-city cop Pegg, so good his colleagues are embarrassed at his success, is sent into exile in a backwater rural village where murders are overtaking the excitement of flower shows.

And we have, thus, one of those so-so funny English comedies that Ealing Studios might have done back when … and done a lot better.

There are some passable gags and one-liners and a host of cameo performances from the stalwarts of Brit comedy but somehow the film doesn’t quite manage lift-off since it’s based on the single fish-out-of-water gag.

Everybody in it seems to have enjoyed themselves so that might rub off.
