John Peel lives on, in a pub

A pub named after radio legend John Peel has been opened in his birth town.

The Ravenscroft pub, which features a large portrait of the late Radio One DJ, is housed in a former post office and health club in Heswall, Merseyside.

The popular broadcaster, who died in 2004, was born John Robert Parker Ravenscroft in the upmarket Wirral town in 1939.

The new pub, which cost £800,000 (€1.2m), took the name following suggestions from local people.
