Grant plays a failing one-time pop star reduced to doing the rounds of the doomsville venues but suddenly given another throw of the dice.

He’s asked to write a hit for singer Bennett. Only he can’t write lyrics. Barrymore can, so they work together.

We have here a low-key musical that doesn’t quite come off since it’s a one-trick pony forced to dance, sing and juggle beyond its capabilities.

It might pass for an evening when you’ve seen everything else on offer and don’t mind watching Grant and Barrymore doing the minimum for their pay.
