You couldn’t possibly go wrong with a cast that includes such quality … and, of course, a schoolboy from Derry (that’s the impressively talented Simpson).
We have here a superior chick-lit film in which pottery teacher Blanchett’s relationship with pupil Simpson raises all manner of emotional and personal turmoil.
A conventional enough story – there are so many similar headlines appearing in our tabloids these days – yet one handled with skill and sympathy to make for as thoughtful a film as any we’ve watched in months.
