Running with Scissors

Director: Ryan Murphy

Cast: Annette Bening, Alec Baldwin, Brian Cox, Joseph Cross, Joseph Fiennes, Gwyneth Paltrow

Cert: 16

One of those films that ought to have been so much better, based as it is on the autobiographical novel by Agusten Burroughs.

The plotline is set against the writer’s troubled childhood with a druggie mother (Bening) and boozed father (Baldwin) and with an equally unsettling shrink (Cox) who adopts the central character (Cross).

But here we have a sterling cast wasted in a film that is both disjointed and completely unengaging. Ultimately there is nothing about any of the characters to enlist our support or interest.

Star Rating: 2/5
