British actor Ralph Fiennes said today he was moved by the strength of HIV positive people in Indian villages he visited over the past five days as an ambassador for UNICEF.

Fiennes said he spoke with young men and women in rural India who had been thrown out by their families once they learned they were HIV positive.

“What has moved me is not the tragedy or the shadow over these people, but what it brings out in them,” he said.

India, with 5.7 million infections, has the world’s largest number of people living with HIV and Aids.
