Would you believe it, it’s not only the legendary former champ Rocky making a mammoth comeback here but his creator Stallone … they both do quite well.

How often in the recent past have we written Sly off: past it, one of yesterday’s men, nothing new to offer.

But he has returned in triumph with the story of the now elderly Rocky taking on one more challenge, a last gasp exhibition bout that turns into another blood and guts thriller.

And for Stallone it marks a magnificent return to the top.
