As complex a story – several stories indeed – as you’d expect from Inarritu, involving a shooting in Morocco, a Stateside ‘kidnapping’ to Mexico and a troubled teenager in Japan.

The delight is in seeing a clever director keep the whole thing together so well, keep it moving along and keep us interested and involved.

What helps, too, is the fine acting – from, as always, Blanchet and Pitt – that stamps class all over the film.
