Raimi oblivious to Spiderman romance

Spiderman director Sam Raimi was oblivious to the blossoming romance between stars Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst when they started dating on the set of the first movie.

The moviemaker took the couple out for a meal and was stunned when it suddenly dawned on him that they might be an item.

He recalls: "I'm so dumb, because I met with them for dinner one night during the shooting to talk about the next day's scenes.

"I go: 'OK, well, that's it for the meeting,' and then I ask Kirsten: 'Can I drive you home?'

"They look at each other and she goes, 'No, no, I'm going to play a game of Touch 10 with Tobey…' It was some game.

"I thought: 'That's weird. She's got to work tomorrow.'"
