Say what you like about the recent controversies surrounding Mel Gibson, but the man sure can bring home stunning films.

He takes a simple storyline – Mayan man (brilliantly portrayed by unknown Youngblood) is captured and taken for sacrificial execution, he escapes and attempts to make his dangerous way home – and turns it into an epic, albeit a bloody one.

It is also a visually thrilling epic of dank jungles … a certain hit for the much-criticised Gibson.
