A Dublin actor best known for his depiction of Ireland's most notorious criminal is to take on the role of Britain's most famous statesman.

Brendan Gleeson, who starred in John Boorman's Ordinary Decent Criminal as the Martin Cahill General, has signed up to play Winston Churchill in a new Ridley Scott film.
