Armani dresses bride Katie
It’s only natural that Katie Holmes turned to Giorgio Armani to design her wedding dress.
Since he provided Richard Gere’s wardrobe for American Gigolo back in the 1980s, the Italian designer has been dressing Hollywood’s stars.
The actress exchanged wedding vows with Tom Cruise at a ceremony at a 15th-century castle in the lakeside Italian town of Bracciano today, but fans and onlookers gathered outside hoping to catch a glimpse of her dressed as a bride got no satisfaction.
She arrived wearing a black dress and boots.
Cruise also wore Armani.
But there was as much secrecy about their clothes as there was about the wedding itself.
The 72-year-old Armani, whose niece Roberta was the very first guest to arrive, was not a surprising choice.
The blue-eyed designer with white hair and a perennial tan gained popularity around the world after inventing the jacket with no lining in the 1970s.
He is famous for the classic, well-tailored look. He ventured into the rarefied field of couture only two years ago. His Armani Prive collection has since won over leading ladies from Beyonce Knowles to Cruise’s ex, Penelope Cruz.
Hollywood’s men also think it a must to have at least one Armani suit in their wardrobes. They include George Clooney, Keanu Reeves, Sean Penn and Johnny Depp.
Armani furnished the wardrobe for De-Lovely, the musical film on the life of composer Cole Porter.
His showbiz clientele not only show up at Oscar night wearing Armani, but they are also frequent guests at his fashion shows.
