A Good Year

Director: Ridley Scott

Cast: Russell Crowe, Albert Finney, Marion Cotillard, Abbie Cornish

A film of which it can truly be said that you'll come out whistling the scenery.

Not that most of everything else about this gentle charmer isn’t worth praising, it’s just that the beauty of Provence plays such a central part of the story.

It’s the story of the sort of thing that should happen to all of us: Englishman Crowe is left a vineyard in France and though his knowledge of wine doesn’t extend beyond drinking it he decides to stay … and who wouldn’t?

Along the way he meets an American lady who shows a keener-than-usual interest in the vineyard and some wonderful – and romantic – characters.

It trundles along nicely, it’s totally satisfying, a fruity little number from the right side of the valley. Go take a sip.
