Grudge sequel knocks Scorsese from top

Horror sequel The Grudge 2 topped the US box office over the weekend with $22m (€18m), knocking director Martin Scorsese's film The Departed into second place.

The Departed took in $18m (€14.4m), while Robin Williams' new film, Man Of The Year, opened in third place with $12.6m (€10m).

Animated film Open Season took fourth place with $11m (€8.8m) and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning rounded out the top five with $7.75m (€6.2m).

Two other new movies debuted in the top 10 - action thriller The Marine starring professional wrestler John Cena opened at number six with $7m (€5.6m).

Meanwhile, One Night With The King, the saga of the biblical story of Esther, came in at number nine with $4.3m (€3.4m).

Infamous, starring British actor Toby Jones as famed author Truman Capote, opened weakly with $435,000 €347,000) in 170 theatres, despite good reviews.
