Acting is dire in Idlewild

Idlewild

Director: Bryan Barber

Cast: Terrance Howard, Big Boi, Andre Benjamin, Paula Patton

Cert: 15

After an encouraging start this Deep South Prohibition-era drama swiftly loses its sense of direction and fumbles around for somewhere to go.

A pity since the idea is promising enough: Benjamin writes songs for singer Patton as a means of escaping from his confining background. Club owner Boi is at war with bootlegger Howard … after which, err, nothing much.

The acting, it has to be said, is pretty dire and nothing director Barber can do to get the thing moving along works.

The music is OK, but you could just wait for the CD of the soundtrack and save yourself some wasted time.

Star Rating: 1/5
