Pretty Persuasion fails to convince
Satire can be devastating in the right hands, but Pretty Persuasion (Metrodome, €21.99) falls well short of the standard.
Kimberley Joyce (Evan Rachel Wood) plays the bitchy teenage daughter of a wealthy businessman (James Wood) who hatches a plot to make her name by claiming the school drama teacher, Mr Anderson (Ron Livingston), molested her.
From there it’s downhill all the way. Evan Rachel Wood is out of her depth as the foul-mouthed teen, but the real problem is bigger — this simply isn’t funny enough.
It’s cringe-inducing and occasionally nauseating.
2/5.
