Barrymore confronted by father of pool death man
Shamed TV star Michael Barrymore was confronted by the angry father of the man found dead in his swimming pool as he signed copies of his new book for fans tonight.
Stuart Lubbock’s father Terry, 61, was one of around 20 people who queued at Waterstone’s book shop in central London waiting for the entertainer to make an appearance.
Mr Lubbock bought a copy of Michael Barrymore, Awight Now – Setting the Record Straight in order to accost the former Strike it Lucky host.
When he got to the front of the queue, Barrymore recognised him immediately, saying: “Hello Terry.”
An incensed Mr Lubbock shouted: “You’re a liar Barrymore and you can stick the book where the sun don’t shine.”
After the outburst, Mr Lubbock, whose son died in Barrymore’s pool five years ago, was then ushered away by security.
He said afterwards: “The fight has only just begun. If Barrymore thinks the last five years have been rough, it hasn’t even started yet.”
His 31-year-old son – a factory worker and father of two young children – was taken to hospital after being discovered in the pool, but died two hours later. A post-mortem examination revealed traces of drugs in his blood and he had suffered anal injuries.
“Someone at that party knows what happened to my son. Someone is responsible for those injuries,” said Mr Lubbock
“The police haven’t charged anyone. The police haven’t exactly been my friend either.”
He added: “I have got complete and utter contempt for the man. When I met him in February he said we would both go to the police to find out how those injuries occurred to my son.
“But I’ve had no contact from Barrymore, he hasn’t returned my calls. He hasn’t come back to me to find out how my son got those injuries.
“I do think that my son was murdered. Someone is responsible for his death and those terrible injuries inflicted on him.”
Barrymore, 54, fled the scene of the death following the party at his mansion in Roydon, near Harlow, Essex
Mr Lubbock added: “He’s not a man, he’s lower than a man.”
