Robbie Williams has defended his latest single Rudebox after fans' mixed reactions to his rap efforts.

The former Take That star has broken away from his pop roots on the track, provoking criticism from devotees - but Williams loves it.

"It has a very special place in my heart," the singer told MTV.

"I think out of any Robbie Williams song I've written, I've listened to Rudebox the most. I've played it to death; it's almost worn out my computer."

Addressing the mediocre response to the track, Williams said: "It's confused me. Lots of people have said: 'We don't like it, we don't get it', but to me it's really strong. I personally love it."
