Trust the Man is a disappointing romantic comedy

Trust the Man

Director: Bart Freundlich

Cast: David Duchovny, Julianne Moore, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Billy Crudup

Cert: 16

What a much better, funnier and more observant this disappointing romantic comedy could have been had the basic notion – men don’t have a clue what women want from a relationship – been properly examined.

Interestingly, it is the male characters – played well by Duchovny and Crudup – who emerge as the more interesting since the two otherwise actresses – Moore and Gyllenhaal – have been left with decidedly unsympathetic roles.

There are some passable snappy Big Apple one-liners on the state of the battle of the sexes but there is a desperate lack of a decently worked plotline.

Star Rating: 2/5
