The Black Dahlia

Director: Brian De Palma

Cast: Josh Hartnett, Aaron Eckhart, Scarlett Johansson, Hilary Swank

An engrossing telling of one of America’s most mysterious true-life murders, that of l940 wannabe actress Elizabeth Short who came to Hollywood seeking fame and fortune.

De Palma’s terrific drama involves the investigation of the brutal murder by Los Angeles cops Hartnett and Eckhart and the web of police corruption surrounding the case.

It is a film packed with period atmosphere and topped by a stunning portrayal of the beautiful victim by Johansson. The film’s detail and pace are brilliantly handled as the case – still never fully solved – is investigated.
