Duff adjusts to Madden's sober lifestyle

Hilary Duff has had to make major adjustments to accommodate longtime boyfriend Joel Madden's sober lifestyle and insists compromising is the key to their successful relationship.

The 18-year-old isn't legally allowed to drink in the US until she is 21, but claims she still likes to party occasionally, while the tattooed Good Charlotte rocker is more of a homebody.

She explains: "He's been clean for two years, and that's something I deal with. It's just that it makes him a little bit different.

"I can't say I'm never going to drink for the rest of my life - I wouldn't want to make that decision. He has to - and he's really adjusted.

"Sometimes I'm the one who's like: 'Let's go out! Let's go out!' and he's like: 'No, I don't want to. Let's stay in.'

"I think that the way people think his personality should be is more like mine. It's like we're reversed!"
