Dunphy to front new RTÉ Radio 1 show
Details of Eamon Dunphy’s new weekend show on RTÉ Radio 1 were revealed for the first time today.
The outspoken soccer pundit and journalist will present Conversations With Eamon Dunphy at 9.10am on Saturdays from September 30.
In the programme Dunphy will talk to prominent Irish people about their lives, passions and the music that inspires them.
Dunphy said he was delighted with the format of his long-awaited show.
“This is something I’ve always wanted to do,” he said. “I plan to have interesting guests, some humour, some insight and a relaxed Saturday morning atmosphere.”
The programme will precede two of the most listened-to programmes in the country.
Ruth Buchanan’s Playback, with 262,000 listeners, will move to the later time of 10.02am, while Marian Finucane, Ireland’s most popular weekend radio show with 272,000 listeners, will continue in the same 11.02am slot.
Ana Leddy, Head of RTÉ Radio 1, said she believed the new Saturday morning schedule would prove a winner with listeners.
“With Marian Finucane and Playback, RTÉ Radio 1 already has the most popular programmes on weekend radio,” she said.
“Conversations With Eamon Dunphy will add to the RTÉ Radio 1 weekend mix giving listeners another top presenter, more variety and high-quality programming.”
