O'Donnell: 'Winfrey should have controlled Cruise'

Comedienne Rosie O'Donnell has blasted talk show host Oprah Winfrey for failing to control Tom Cruise during his infamous couch-jumping escapades on her programme last year.

Cruise had only been dating fiancée Katie Holmes for five weeks when he leaped all over Winfrey's furniture, pummelled the floor with his fists and shouted: "I'm in love, I'm in love."

Long-time Cruise fan O'Donnell was stunned by the public and media backlash against his behaviour last year, and believes Winfrey should have stepped in to curtail the actor's enthusiasm on her talk show.

A League of Their Own star O'Donnell tells Newsweek magazine: "I saw him doing the couch jumping. I wasn't mad at him. I was mad at Oprah. Oprah, couldn't you have said: 'Tommy, come here! Don't jump.'"
