Weisz all smiles despite critics' boos

Actress Rachel Weisz was all smiles tonight at the world premiere of her new film The Fountain.

The Oscar-winning star went for full-on glamour in a black Versace gown with red sash.

She put on a brave face despite the film earlier being booed by critics at the Venice Film Festival.

It is written and directed by her American fiance, Darren Aronofsky. Weisz gave birth to the couple’s first child, Henry Chance, in May.

Audiences were left perplexed by the film, which features three parallel stories spanning 1,000 years.

X-Men actor Hugh Jackman stars as a 16th century Spanish explorer, 21st century scientist and 26th century astronaut, searching for the Fountain of Youth in a bid to save the life of Weisz, the woman he loves.

In the contemporary story, Weisz’s character is dying of cancer and her scientist husband races against time to find a cure.

The Ā£18 million film was rejected by all the major studios – and an earlier incarnation set to star Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett was ditched – until it was finally picked up.

Weisz, 35, said she had every faith in the movie.

ā€œI think it’s wonderful that the film is so different. I would love to work with Darren again,ā€ she said.

Aronofsky, 38, joked about directing his own fiance in a bathroom sex scene with Jackman.

ā€œI’m a pervert so I had no issue with it,ā€ he said. ā€œI enjoy shooting sex scenes very much. She’s an actress, he’s an actor. It’s mostly make-believe, and when you shout ā€˜cut’ it’s over.ā€

He even urged the pair to make the scene more raunchy by demanding Weisz take Jackman’s trousers off – although that particular moment ended up on the cutting room floor.

ā€œThey were kissing in the bathtub and he had his pants on, and if it was your husband you would take his pants off,ā€ Aronofsky said. ā€œBut actually the next take didn’t make it into the film because it would have changed the rating.ā€
