New mother Weisz steps out for premiere
British actress Rachel Weisz will be in Venice today for the world premiere of her new film The Fountain.
It will be her first major public appearance since the birth of baby Henry Chance in May.
The Fountain is written and directed by Weisz’s American fiancé, Darren Aronofsky.
Spanning 1,000 years, it is billed as an epic tale of love, death and spirituality. Weisz, 35, stars opposite X-Men actor Hugh Jackman.
The story takes Jackman from 16th century Spain to the year 2500AD in a quest for the Fountain of Youth to save the woman he loves.
Weisz’s last film, an adaptation of John Le Carre’s The Constant Gardener, earned her a best supporting actress Oscar.
Another movie showing in Venice today is the US remake of cult horror The Wicker Man, starring Nicolas Cage in the role made famous by Edward Woodward.
Released in the UK last Friday, the film has been derided by critics who say it is not a patch on the 1973 British original.
