It’s the old house with dark secrets plot again … though this animated tale has lots of style, some genuine frights and plenty of wit to mark it down as a cut above.

The old house, the talk of the neighbourhood for years, belongs to a crabby old guy who has to go into hospital, leaving the local kids to explore.

Several spooky events – disappearing bodies – lend a menace to the exploration.

The pace of this excellent and entertaining film builds and is sustained by sharp dialogue and white-knuckle moments you won’t see coming.

By every yardstick this is a des res!
