New Culture Club singer recruited on website

New Culture Club frontman Sam Butcher was chosen as Boy George's replacement after responding to an advert on a popular UK classified ads website.

The 29-year-old sent a joke and a photograph to bandmembers Jon Moss, Phil Pickett and Mikey Craig after spotting the ad on Gumtree.com, not believing it to be serious.

The trio were immediately taken with his feminine look and invited him to an audition.

Butcher's response to the ad - a reference to Boy George's declaration he would rather have "a cup of tea" than sex - read, "No, this is not Boy George. I wouldn't prefer a cup of tea, but I wouldn't mind a Brandy Alexander."
