Foxx worked on Mann to make Miami Vice

Oscar winner Jamie Foxx spent two years trying to persuade director Michael Mann to make a big screen version of 1980s TV series Miami Vice.

Foxx met Mann at a birthday party for legendary boxer Muhammad Ali in 2001, and immediately set about pitching his dream of starring in a Miami Vice movie.

Mann says: "Jamie said I should make Miami Vice. He did 20 minutes on why I should do it, doing the sound effects and the cars and everything.

"Then he worked on me for about two years and finally I succumbed."
