The message remains clear: dump those ciggies.

And the message comes in a brilliantly witty satire packed with quite excellent performances. What gives this film its edge is that the said message isn’t hammered relentlessly home but slipped out to us style and cunning.

Eckhart plays a man with the thankless task of lobbying on behalf of the Stateside tobacco industry, a task he undertakes with smarmy and baseless arguments … until a visit from his son makes him take another look at his mission impossible.

In the background there’s the always-excellent Macy as a campaigning politico and Holmes as a dirt-seeking journo.

The whole is a wonderfully watchable film.
