Eminem is returning to the big screen in an updated version of a 1950s television Western.
Have Gun – Will Travel debuted on American channel CBS in 1957 and ran until 1963. Paramount Pictures has extended an 18-month option on the property to develop it as a vehicle for the Detroit rapper, Daily Variety reported.
Eminem, real name Marshall Mathers III, has committed to shoot the role and is excited about his latest opportunity, Interscope Records spokesman Dennis Dennehy said.
The concept of the series will be updated to contemporary times and feature Eminem playing a bounty hunter. The setting could be Detroit, but those details have yet to be confirmed.
The 33-year-old Grammy-winning rapper rose to stardom with a number of best-selling CDs with deeply personal lyrics and a starring role in the 2002 film 8 Mile.
Eminem is also expected to be involved in producing the soundtrack of the new film.
Have Gun – Will Travel starred Richard Boone, who earned Emmy nominations in 1959 and 1960 for his portrayal of gunfighter-for-hire Paladin.
