Pamela Anderson has slammed US fast-food chain Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) in Indonesia for its cruel treatment of chickens.

The actress sent a letter to Dick Gelael, president of KFCs Indonesia operations, to demand the chain eliminate the "worst abuses of chickens".

In her letter, she said: "Chickens who are raised for KFC are bred and drugged to grow so large so quickly that many become crippled under their own weight".

She went on to claim that alleged abuses include cutting off the sensitive beaks of baby birds with a hot blade without using any pain-killers and breaking the birds' wings and legs as they are crudely gathered for slaughter.

She also said that at the slaughter-house "millions are dunked into tanks of scalding-hot water while they are still conscious".
