Jarhead moves at slow pace
Yet another Iraq war film, Jarhead (Universal, €24.99) moves at a much slower pace than you’d expect — the action scenes are limited, and the main character, sniper Anthony Swofford (Jake Gyllenhaal), and his companions, pass the time having fun and engaging in humane acts rather than firing at the enemy.
Sam Mendes’ rendition of Swofford’s book is more a study of marine life and the boring numbness of what routinely happens in conflict, and it largely works.
