Shields amused by same-day births for daughter and Suri

Brooke Shields is amused by the fact she gave birth to daughter Grier the same day Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' daughter Suri was born, claiming "the irony is perfect".

The stars engaged in a public battle of words last year, after the Mission: Impossible star criticised the actress for taking anti-depressants after the birth of her first child Rowan.

She explains: "You know, the irony is perfect. The world works in an interesting way, but we (were) both pretty busy that day."

The 40-year-old gave birth to her second child with TV producer-husband Chris Henchy on April 18, reportedly in the same Los Angeles hospital as Holmes.

She adds: "Yeah, rumour has it. Again, I was pretty distracted."

When asked if she had any run-ins with Cruise at the hospital she says: "No. God, no."

The Suddenly Susan star chose to take the high road when discussing Cruise adding: "It's a gift having kids, you know, so it's a beautiful thing rather than anything else."

Cruise appeared on TV and criticised the actress for comments she made publicly and in her memoirs, in which she spoke candidly about her own baby blues and the anti-depressants which helped her to deal with the low.

But, after the warring stars' new babies were born in the same hospital, Shields has chosen to forgive Cruise and forget the criticism he piled on her.

Speaking to US TV show Entertainment Tonight, Shields said: "It's (having a baby) the best gift you could have, so I'm really happy for them. How could I not be?"

The actress admitted she isn't suffering the same post-partum problems she did with her new baby as she did when her now two-year-old daughter Rowan was born.
