Even if we are in the familiar territory of the small town being terrorised by something nasty lurking underfoot there is something catching about this horror film, and that something is the playing of the excellent Fillion as the serious-funny and baffled local sheriff.

He is matched by Rooker who doesn't let his character get out of control as frightening things mount up in small-town Wheesly: disappearing pets, mangled cattle, vanishing citizens, odd-ball behaviour … and something nasty taking over the world.
