Joan Collins hits out at teen magazines

Screen siren Joan Collins has hit out at “graphic” magazines that are robbing girls of their childhood, it emerged today.

The glamorous star, famed for playing manipulative seductresses on shows such as Dynasty, revealed a moral streak when she was interviewed by Jonathan Ross.

She said there were many elements of modern society which she found distasteful, including pressure for girls to grow up too quickly.

“I think a lot of children are losing their childhood because so many magazines for girls are so graphic. I think that’s a great pity. Children know too much.”

Collins – who turns 73 next month – admitted that her screen image had not always fitted well with her strict upbringing.

She said: “I never saw a naked man until I got married ... no sex before marriage ... I’m really kind of private, I never discussed things with the girls.

“It’s hard to understand today.”

The actress revealed that good skincare had been the secret of maintaining her looks over the years – and claimed that her contemporary Brigitte Bardot had been “ruined” by excessive tanning.

Modern stars also came in for criticism: “In Hollywood they make a huge effort, but if you see them during the day they don’t quite look the same – bag ladies!”

Friday Night with Jonathan Ross is on BBC One at 10.35pm tonight.
