Romance and Cigarettes is a charming musical

Romance and Cigarettes

Director: John Turturro

Cast: James Gandolfini, Susan Sarandon, Steve Buscemi, Christopher Walken

Cert: 15

Turturro has always been a quirky kind of guy, both as a director and actor, and here he comes up with a musical romance the like of which you’ll not encounter in a long time.

Gandolfini plays a man whose seemingly happy life is thrown into confusion when his wife (Sarandon) discovers his affair with a sexy redhead (played brilliantly and show-stealingly by Kate Winslet, in a minor but very major role) and enlists the help of a cousin (Walken) for revenge.

So who is the erring husband to choose, wife or mistress?

It’s a musical in that the cast synch songs from the swinging sixties and it’s a clever and witty piece of moviemaking.

Star Rating: 4/5
