Lachey recorded song the day he was dumped

Singer Nick Lachey recorded his confessional first single What's Left Of Me on the same day Jessica Simpson told him their marriage was over.

Lachey was planning on spending last year's Thanksgiving holiday with his wife in Texas, until he received a phone call from her telling him she was ending their relationship.

He says the song was recorded: "The day before Thanksgiving, which was basically the day that Jessica told me she wanted to get a divorce."

The former 98 Degrees star has put his feelings about the split into his new as-yet-untitled album which is set to be released on May 23.

He says the highly personal album "is kind of a journal of the last year of my life".
