Douglas questions short-lived celebrity marriages

They may not thank him for it, but Michael Douglas has some thoughts on failed celebrity relationships.

On the same day Jennifer Aniston revealed people’s sympathy for her over her ex-husband Brad Pitt’s relationship with Angelina Jolie “made her skin crawl”, the Basic Instinct star emerged as a high-profile contender for membership of “Team Aniston”.

The 61-year-old questioned the Pitt-Jolie romance, as well as pondering the short-lived marriages of Renee Zellweger and Julia Roberts to respective country singers Kenny Chesney and Lyle Lovett.

“I don’t know about Brad Pitt leaving that beautiful woman to go hold orphans for Angelina,” Douglas told GQ magazine.

“I mean how long is that going to last?”

The United Nations “Messenger of Peace” paid tribute to Welsh wife Catherine Zeta-Jones.

“You learn to respect something of value and nurture it and treat it well,” Douglas said.

“I mean, don’t ask me what happened with Renee Zellweger. I don’t know how you get married for four months.

“And Julia with Lyle. There must be some incredible things you find out one night. I mean, I don’t know.”

The actor also revealed that filming his famous screen romp with Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct left him shattered.

“When Sharon and I did the f*** of the century – it was eight days,” he recalled.

“It was tough. It was exhausting.”
