Deadwood a modern classic for western fans
I confess, I love westerns, and Deadwood, Season 2 (Paramount, 74.99) has done nothing to dim my appetite for more.
This season Deadwood is on the verge of transition to a proper town, and a new sheriff, Seth Bullock, tries to introduce law and order as new threats arrive from outside and brothel rivals Al Swearengen (the brilliant Ian McShane) and Cy Tolliver gear up for supremacy. And the women aren’t much nicer either.
The four discs include 540 minutes of violence, bad language and sex, sure to consign John Wayne’s cigar-spitting drawl to the dustbin.
But mostly what’s pleasing is the quality writing and the fact there isn’t a dud moment in the whole series.
