Capote

Director: Bennett Miller

Cast: Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Chris Cooper, Catherine Keener, Clifton Collins Jnr

Cert: 15

Much praise, including a BAFTA, for Hoffman who plays, to brilliant perfection, Stateside author Truman Capote in one of the outstanding films of the year.

This is not strictly speaking a bio since it covers just one, seminal, incident from the Capote life and times... the research into and writing of the classic true story of the murder of the Clutter family in Kansas which became In Cold Blood.

This is Hoffman’s second major role and it sets him apart as a wonderful actor with the ability to capture his character with a minimum of effort. It is, too, a slow-paced film that, nevertheless, manages to sweep us along as it examines the obsession of Capote with his subject.

A positive gem!
