Good Night, And Good luck is a flawless film
Good Night, And Good Luck

David Strathairn, George Clooney, Jeff Daniels, Robert Downey Jr
PG
One of the two Clooney films filling the 2006 Oscar rota … and a brilliant, searing, compelling drama set during the infamous Joseph McCarthy anti-communist witch-hunt of the l950s.
It was a dark period in America’s history, a period during which many careers and lives were ruined in the search for beds and reds under them. A period when most of America reverted to cowardice and ran for cover.
Some did brave showing above the safety and this is the story of one of them, famed broadcaster Edward R. Murray (surely an Oscar-winning performance from Strathairn?) and his producer, Fred Friendly (Clooney).
Shot in dramatic black-and-white, it sets Clooney apart from today’s stars as a man of courage and vision. It is a truly outstanding – and timely – swipe at American politics.
