Clooney depressed about weight gain

Actor George Clooney is depressed he managed to pile on so much weight so quickly for his role as CIA operative Bob Barnes in Syriana.

The 44-year-old grew a beard for the role and packed on 35 pounds (15.8 kilograms) for the political thriller, which has won him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

He says: "I put it on so quickly, I was anxious to get it off.

"The depressing thing was that I could put on 35 pounds in 30 days."
