Boy George drug charges hearing adjourned
Former Culture Club lead singer Boy George appeared briefly in criminal court in Manhattan today to answer charges related to his October drug possession arrest.
Following a brief meeting at the bench between the singer’s lawyer, Lewis Freeman, and prosecutor Craig Ortner, Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Anthony Ferrara postponed the case to March 8.
Boy George, whose birth name is George O’Dowd, said nothing during the court appearance.
As he was being hustled out of the courthouse by bodyguards, he answered “yes” when a reporter asked if he still maintained his innocence.
O’Dowd was arrested at his New York apartment on October 7 after he called 911 to report a burglary.
Police who went to check out the call charged O’Dowd after finding a small amount of cocaine next to a computer.
O’Dowd has been free on bail pending a trial after being charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, allegedly more than an eighth of an ounce (3.5 grams) of cocaine.
O’Dowd and his lawyer say the drugs found in his apartment were not his.
