Boy George scheduled to appear on narcotics charge

Former Culture Club front man and singer Boy George was scheduled to appear in a New York court today on narcotics charges.

It was not immediately known whether Boy George, real name George O’Dowd, would show up in court or have his lawyers request another adjournment.

At the last court date on December 19, New York Criminal Court Judge Patricia Nunez adjourned the case until February 1 at the request of defence and prosecution lawyers.

At the time, George’s lawyer, Lewis Freeman, said George had been excused from the court date so he could work on literary and recording projects in England.

George, 44, is famous for his androgynous persona and Culture Club hits, including Karma Chameleon and “o You Really Want to Hurt Me?

He was arrested on October 7 on drug charges after he called police to report what he said was a pre-dawn burglary in his Manhattan apartment.

Officers arrived at George’s apartment and discovered a small amount of cocaine next to a computer, police said.

George was released the next day without bail after being arraigned on a charge of fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, allegedly more than one-eighth of an ounce (3.5 grams) of cocaine, Barbara Thompson, a spokeswoman for the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, said at the time.
