Memoirs of a Geisha

Director: Rob Marshall

Cast: Ziyi, Zhang, Gong Li, Ken Watanabe

Cert: 15

The complex world of the Japanese Geisha; those delicate flowers trained, slave-like, to dish out pleasure, sexual and otherwise; is examined in this beautifully-shot, if slightly insubstantial, film.

The world of the delicate flowers is, not all that surprisingly, riven with jealousy, in-fighting, betrayal and unhappiness as each flower fights to become the brightest and the best.

At times this is a difficult film to follow and in the end you’ll be left with the feeling that it has been mostly show and not much substance.
