U2's Brazilian ticket chaos

A Brazilian supermarket chain has been blasted by U2 fans, after tens of thousands were left empty-handed on the first day of ticket sales for a Sao Paolo gig.

Angry Beautiful Day stalwarts hurled abuse at the shop's president Abilio Diniz, when supermarkets selling the sought-after tickets experienced till problems and kept queues waiting for more than 12 hours on Monday.

Only 73,000 tickets were available for purchase and, priced at two-thirds of Brazil's minimum monthly wage, most fans were left empty-handed in the confusion.

Teacher Verna Zula, 29, who waited seven hours before doors opened, said: "I wouldn't have bothered if I had known it would be like this.

"When I got here there were 150 people in front of me. None of them have got tickets yet."

Organisers have since apologised and promised to add another February tour date to the Irish band's schedule.
