Hopkins casts wife in film role

Welsh-born actor Anthony Hopkins is keeping it in the family for his latest project by casting his wife in a serious role, it was reported today.

Former antiques dealer Stella Arroyave, who met Sir Anthony when he walked into her shop, said she will play the wife in the film, apparently called Slipstream.

Arroyave, who had a small part in 2003’s The Human Stain, in which her husband starred, told the New York Daily News she was preparing for a “very meaty role as the wife in a movie my husband has written, and is going to direct and star in“.

Sir Anthony said: “Stella’s part is quite substantial.”

The actor, who will receive a lifetime achievement award at the Golden Globes in Los Angeles tonight, was born in Margam, near Port Talbot, in 1937 and was knighted in 1993.

He became a US citizen in April 2000 and now lives near Los Angeles with Colombian-born Arroyave, whom he married three years ago.
