A sort-of war film in which there is little fighting until the film has run its course.

War isn't so much hell as boring. We have here a group of US Marines trained for the kill but mostly marking time before being shipped off to Iraq.

It's more, in many ways, an anti-war film even if Mendes isn't sure to what extent that should be: all-out gung-ho or unjust cause? Good cast, though. Pity the film can't make up its mind what it wants to convey.
