No regrets for Danes over Titanic decision

Claire Danes has no regrets over turning down the role of Rose DeWitt Bukater in Titanic, insisting the part was destined for Kate Winslet.

Danes was offered the role only weeks after filming Romeo + Juliet with Titanic star Leonardo DiCaprio, and decided two romantic roles with the actor would be too much.

She says: "The story just didn't appeal to me. And I'd just done an epic romance with Leo in Mexico. I'm so glad Kate did it - she did such a beautiful job. She was destined to play it."

Both movies were filmed in Mexico to save on production costs.
